Happy New Year to all of you! This year is going to be one of art and I’m starting out with the attempt to get one Piece of Art COMPLETED per week. Considering my last post, completing is something I really need to do more of.
So here be my first Piece a Week and a short story to go with it.
This is a photo of the view from our front yard. You’re looking at the peak of an extinct ( or according to some people, dormant) volcano. We’re parked between the two major craters – this is the pinnacle of the Valley Lake crater. Behind us is the larger crater of the Blue Lake. We’re at Mount Gambier and because I have a memory like a sieve, this is my first Reverb post.
An art book recommendation, a watercolour palette, a new painting, a thunderstorm encounter and inspiring sea glass. It has been an interesting week.
Met an artist, listened to an illustrator, ate dinner with an arty friend, received an arty book and painted a giant squid. Yeah, a very arty week.
To celebrate the fact that my studio has just had a darn good tidy up (except my art desk, that is still pending), here are a few piccies to prove that it was once tidy before I trash it again 😀
In this series I am focussing on finding inspiration through exploration of media and the world around us. Most of the time inspiration doesn’t hit us out of the blue, we have to go looking for it.
This week we have the wonderfully witty Trish Ward. Unlike the majority of people I meet online, Trish lives not only on the same continent as me, but actually just down the road. It is fantastic to have her close by and we met for the first time just last week. Trish paints, writes (one of her fiction stories recently won an award) and inspires everyone around her with her determination and intriguing mindset. I love the way she approaches her art and hope to one day follow a similar course with mine. Thank you, Trish for agreeing to do this interview. It is fantastic to have you here.
In my introduction to Drew, I mentioned one of his paintings that I refer to as ‘the frog’. That is totally not its title, but Drew was kind enough to send me an image of this painting so I could share it with all of you. Absolutely stunning work, the kind that reduces me to a drooling zombie upon sight.
This week I’m honoured to present Drew Harrison, an award winning professional artist I met while he was hosting an art group at the WEA (an adult education centre). Drew’s skill with a paintbrush is simply amazing. His realistic works are stunning with a level of detail rivalling that of a photograph, yet possessing an emotional presence, powerful and unique to his painting. His surreal and abstract pieces are thought provoking and clever. And dare I mention the frog? I’m still in love with the frog! Thank you so much, Drew, for this interview. This week I am pleased to host an interview with Tracy Woodsford, an artist who has not only inspired me in my art, but introduced art to my sister, something I could not have done. This in turn has helped bring my sister, myself and my children closer – we have art parties! Tracy has an insatiable curiosity in her art, exploring technique after technique. She is an avid art journaller and I continue to eye her work and learn. Thank you so much, Tracy for giving us this window into your inspiration.
