Finished. It is the holy grail for all artists. I have a saying pinned on my pinboard above my desk (well, I did until we gutted my studio, but let’s play as if it is still there): ‘To start is fun, but to finish is ecstasy.’ And I really believe that. I’ve always […]
I had some great fun yesterday. Now considering the title of this post, you might wonder what I have been up to. But no, I’m far too much of a goody-two-shoes to actually go out and graffiti anything. But what I can do is a piece of artwork in the graffiti style…well, as close as a square cucumber like me can manage.
I have something to post for Sunday Sketches! First time in a long time.
Derwent Inktense pencils were recommended to me last week and by cashing in my birthday pressie from Hubby, I was able to go out and buy some yesterday. So it was with eagerness that I set out to test these new watercolour/ink pencils.
I did more than 15 minutes of course. It was a public holiday here today and Hubby was home so between the both of us we juggled the kids and necessary tasks. Also, because I wasn’t running around madcap all day, I actually had some energy to spare for my art. So, no pressure and damn any mistakes or wonkiness, I just did art.
Well, I suppose you could call it that.
It looks better in real life, trust me. My scanner has issues with red, as does my camera and printer. It must be the awkward end of the spectrum. in any case,I have red and yellow gel pen squiggles all over this and it has developed into a rather interesting background. I call it a work in progress because I think it needs a focus, something I have yet to work out what.
I’ve been fascinated by this background from my acrylic experiments last week. it has been yelling at me to create something from it. But I don’t know what. So last night I printed off a couple of copies of the square, and since they are reproduceable copies, I felt free to make as many mistakes as I had to. That is always very freeing. I still didn’t know what to make of it, so I just put my gel pen to the paper and drew. I don’t know what I’ve come up with, but I like it.
